What is Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine that was invented by German researcher Samuel Hahnemann way back in 1796. The basic principle propounded by Hahnemann as the foundation of homeopathy was that of ‘like cures like’ which means that the symptoms caused by a particular substance in the body could be treated by administering very small and regulated quantities of that same substance! The origins

S. Hahnemann was shocked by the bizarre treatment methods and concepts, many of which relied on the use of harsh substances and even poisons as cures. Bloodletting was also prominent at that time. This led him to find out some effective treatment concept and he started experimenting on self and a group of volunteers to find out the efficacy of ‘like cures like’ principle. He then founded the system of Homeopathy by laying down the fundamental rules and principles that form the basis of modern day practice around the world.

The homeopathic treatment and medicines

Homeopathy relies on Homeopathic medicines that are developed as highly diluted forms of various compounds and elements found in nature. The specific process of making the dilution is very important and undertaken in a much guarded manner under the strict supervision of the specialists that oversee and supervise the production. The dilution determines the potency of the medicine. It is interesting to note that with the succeeding step of dilution each time, the potency gets increased! For example, a homeopathic dilution indicating 6c refers to six consecutive steps in dilutions where one part of medicine is diluted with 99 parts of water or alcohol. Similarly, 30c refers to thirty steps of dilutions and this would be more potent than the 6c! Dilution is also accompanied with another noted action which is the succussion or the vigorous shaking while diluting the medicine. Succussion is known to improve the dilution efficiency and hence the efficacy of the homeopathic remedy, as it is called in homeopathic med practice parlance.
